Let’s Rodeo, San Antonio! It’s that time again, and many things are in store for the 2007 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is San Antonio’s single largest annual event, with over 1 million visitors. From Feb. 1 to 18, those visitors will be thrilled with a variety of experiences on the grounds of the historic Freeman Coliseum and at the state-of-the-art AT&T
Center, starting with San Antonio’s own $1 million rodeo.
The San Antonio Rodeo is a world-class sporting event that fans young and old will not want to miss. This event was selected as both the 2005 and 2006 PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year — the equivalent of back-to-back national championships in the rodeo world. This year, for the first time, the San Antonio Rodeo will offer over $1 million in prize money to the contestants, making it one of only two regular season rodeos in the country to do so.
San Antonio also takes rodeo to a completely new level by bringing the very best bucking stock from all over North America. These animals, when combined with the top-ranking contestants in seven rodeo events that occur during nightly performances, make for an electrifying rodeo rivaled only by the National Finals Rodeo.
Layer all of this with a strong commitment to tradition, and you will have a sense of the San Antonio Rodeo experience. Each rodeo performance is punctuated by the familiar commentary of rodeo announcers Hadley Barrett and Randy Corley, who together with rodeo clown Leon Coffee, offer an educational and amusing look at the action.
Families will also relish music by the famous Sarli Band, the brilliant horsemanship of the Palomino Patrol and the highly entertaining Calf Scramble and Mutton Bustin’ events. To top it all off, each performance ends with a concert by a world-famous entertainer. This year’s lineup includes Alan Jackson, Sugarland, Gretchen Wilson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aly & AJ and many others.
Keeping in mind that this grand event is “… more than an 8-second ride,” a thrilling world awaits everyone in the family outside of the AT&T Center. The grounds include a clean and safe carnival, a family fair with upscale and unique shopping from over 600 vendors, delicious food, educational and entertaining exhibits, petting zoos and multiple music stages.
The grounds are also home to the world’s largest Junior Livestock Show. This show not only provides a point of interest for visitors, but also provides insight into the underlying reason the entire San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo exists: to raise money for the education of Texas youth.
Many are unaware that by attending this exciting event they are supporting its mission of “Helping Youth Today So That Agriculture Can Grow Tomorrow.” Each year the San Antonio Stock Show raises millions of dollars in support of education, with a total of over $72 million committed in the form of scholarships, grants, endowments, auctions, calf scramble program and show premiums paid to youth since the program’s inception. In the future, the Stock Show & Rodeo will continue to expand and enhance public education and information efforts during the show and throughout the year. SALE is committed to the betterment of the community and furthering the organization's mission: "Helping Youth Today So That Agriculture Can Grow Tomorrow."
