The amusement park we now know
as Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened in
San Antonio in 1992 as simply Fiesta Texas,
a live-entertainment-based theme park
owned by USAA Real Estate Company
and Gaylord Entertainment. In its infancy,
Fiesta Texas was categorized as a “musical
show park,”in the same genre as Opryland
USA in Nashville, its sister facility at the time.
Since Six Flags took ownership of Fiesta
Texas in 1998, the number of thrilling rides
on the 200-acre property has increased
significantly, and an exciting water park
has been added without detracting from
the level of excellence offered at the
park’s many live entertainment venues.
Super-quality performances that began
on day one have gotten even better
through the years. Practice has made
perfect. Proof of this lies in the fact that Six
Flags Fiesta Texas has won Amusement
Today’s Golden Ticket Award for “Best
Theme Park Shows in the Country” for an
incredible eight years in a row.
When asked how the park has been
able to attain this kind of success among
its peers, Sydne Purvis, communications
manager for Six Flags Fiesta Texas, replied, “We’re very proud of our musical heritage
that began back in the early ‘90s
and are extremely pleased with the
accolades we’ve received over time.
One thing is for sure, we certainly don’t
rest on our laurels but rather always look
to add new shows and improve existing
ones. It is this steadfast approach that
keeps us at the top of our game and
continually motivates us to produce
award-winning entertainment.”
On the subject of new shows, Six Flags
Fiesta Texas has gone above and beyond
the call of duty in 2007. Five new offerings
for the season include Streetmosphere, featuring
culturally diverse street entertainment
in all themed areas of the park; Genuine Country at Sundance Theatre in
the Crackaxle Canyon section; Looney
Tunes Talent Show, a parody of popular talent
show programming at Sangerfest Halle
in the Spassberg sector; Fiesta in the Streets,
an interactive parade at 3:30pm daily in
the Rockville area with Looney Tunes and
Justice League characters; and the Starburst Thursday Night Concert Series at
Lone Star Lil’s Amphitheater. Upcoming
shows in this series are as follows:
7/5 — One Night With Ne-Yo
7/12 — JoJo
7/19 — Ryan Cabrera & The Click Five
7/26 — Omarion
8/2 — Cheyenne & Paula DeAnda
8/9 — Plain White T’s
In addition to the live shows mentioned
above, Six Flags Fiesta Texas also
gives park patrons the opportunity to
see such shows as Encore! One Hit
Wonders and Vintage Vinyl in
Sangerfest Halle, Down Home Country
in Sundance Theatre, Rockin’ At
Rockville within the friendly confines of
Rockville High, Teatro Fiesta in the Los
Festivales area, and Xcelleration
(Xtreme BMX bike and skateboard show
on a specially built stage) at Zaragosa
Theatre. All of this for the price of a ticket.
Better yet, a season pass will assure
you of seeing and doing all that Six
Flags Fiesta Texas has to offer.
In the words of Purvis, “Six Flags Fiesta
Texas is a bring-the-whole-family, and the
grandparents too, kind of park. There is
truly something for everyone here. You
can ride Tony Hawk’s Big Spin, our newest
coaster, or splash your way through White
Water Bay. You can listen to the music or
take in a parade or fireworks display. A
quality experience can be had by all,
regardless of age.”
After your visit, I’m sure you’ll agree.
