MARCH OF DIMES SAN ANTONIO

Preparations for March of Dimes’ annual Signature Chefs gala are off to a promising start with Chef Jason Dady stepping into the role of lead chef this year. The culinary fund-raising event brings the area’s finest chefs together to offer delectable samples of their signature dishes and auction off unique travel and dining experiences.

Chef Dady made a grand entry into San Antonio in 2001 with the opening of The Lodge Restaurant of Castle Hills, which garnered rave reviews for its romantic atmosphere. He broadened his appeal in 2006 with the opening of BIN 555, a restaurant with a Mediterranean influenced menu.

Chef Dady’s passion and gifts have been recognized with awards and acclaim on the national, regional and local level. Along the path to professional success, he also looked for opportunities to support the community. March of Dimes’ Signature Chefs seemed to be tailor-made for his personal interests as a father and talents as a chef. He participated in the event for the first time in 2003.

“It gave me an opportunity to really contribute in a way that I know best,” says Dady. “The March of Dimes makes a difference in people’s lives when their babies are most vulnerable, and it is an honor to help them raise money.”

The March of Dimes was founded by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938 to conquer polio. Since achieving that incredible goal, the voluntary health organization has focused on children’s health, most specifically combating birth defects, prematurity and infant mortality. The Signature Chefs gala has quickly risen as one of the organization’s premier fund-raisers, attracting top chefs and gourmet enthusiasts to the event.

“It’s a great cause, and it connects us with our clients one-on-one,” says Dady. “In previous years, I have auctioned off private cooking classes followed by a chef tasting dinner paired with fine wines. We have a great time!”

Over 400 of San Antonio’s philanthropic residents are expected to attend this year’s Signature Chefs gala, scheduled for Nov. 18 at the Westin La Cantera. Guests will enjoy musical entertainment, a wine bar and a silent auction as they stroll from one delicious sampling station to another. The evening is topped off with an exciting live auction, where guests can bid on exclusive dining packages offered by the Signature Chefs themselves.

As this year’s lead chef, Dady is excited about helping to elevate Signature Chefs to the next level. He is instrumental in enlisting high-profile chefs and creating culinary packages for the live auction. Chef Dady is still contemplating what he will serve this year, but he does say that his best dishes all start with fresh local ingredients, so it should be something seasonal. In the meantime, he’s making sure organizers have all the ingredients for success.

“We’ve got amazing culinary packages, a professional auctioneer and new top-caliber chefs,” says Dady. “This is an extraordinary event, not to be missed by anyone who truly loves food and cares about the community.”
