Haute cuisine and extraordinary art! Once a year, the
Blue Star Contemporary Art Center coordinates a culinary
and visual art spectacular known as Arts and Eats. Each year
more than 30 of San Antonio’s and the surrounding region’s top
chefs feature their signature culinary delights to over 1,000 attendees,
showcasing their high-profile expertise while competing for
top awards from a panel of celebrity judges.
“The culinary delights, fine wine, contemporary art, live music
and a Dia de los Muertos theme — Arts & Eats, San Antonio’s original
food and wine festival, is the recipe for unforgettable entertainment,”
says Bill FitzGibbons, executive director, Blue Star
Contemporary Art Center.“Now in its 13th year,Arts & Eats remains
San Antonio’s most popular epicurean fund-raising event.”
The culinary superstars provide samples of their most famous
dishes to guests. This tantalizing event offers a chance for you to find
new favorite dishes and an opportunity to taste international wines
that have won top awards. In conjunction with such gastronomic
delights, a group of highly collectible art pieces from Texas’ most
distinguished artists will be on exhibit the evening of the event.
“I grew up with an Italian mom who was know for her extravagant
culinary creations. My parents also loved to take us to galleries
and museums starting at a young age.Arts & Eats brings all of
my favorite things together — family, friends, great food and contemporary
art,” says Mary Read Egger,Arts & Eats event co-chair.
The tradition of Arts and Eats with the theme of Dia de los
Muertos remains the premier fund-raiser for Blue Star
Contemporary Art Center, contributing significantly to the
organization and its operational budget. Your continued support
makes possible contemporary art exhibitions and special
new educational programs such as Writers and Artists Exchange
(WAX), Art 2 You, Visiting Artist Talks/Workshops, Family Day and
the new Business of Arts program.
“What makes Arts & Eats stand out from the rest is our tradition
of observing Dia de los Muertos. It is the thematic backdrop for the
evening and gives us opportunity to celebrate the lives of an artist
and an art patron that have passed away this year. A beautiful
and artistic altar will be made in their honor and in the tradition of
that holiday,” says Chuck Ramirez, artist and event design chair.
